Mission: The simplest remote reading system possible.
The Situation
Expanding practice. Multiple sites. Lots of travel.
In 2009, Westside Imaging welcomed distinguished cardiologist Gerald Pohost, M.D. as their primary reading physician and to expand their diagnostic offering. He reads at multiple sites in the Westside system.
The Challenge
Data integrity as good a direct transfer
Arno Conley is Westside’s chief technologist. His job, among many others, is to equip Dr. Pohost with the tools and technology he needs.
“We have a Phillips Pegasys. SPECT and PET. The PET is acquired from a different station. It’s important to know we’re getting a system that can handle data transfer from these systems seamlessly. It’s difficult to find a system that can read old Pegasys files and convert them”
The Solution
”This was by far the easiest solution”
Arno and Westside implemented the Syntermed Live remote reading package in early 2010.
“The transfer is smooth and easy.”
States Arno: “It pulls the data not just accurately but quickly. It doesn’t produce extraneous files, and handles about every DICOM file I throw at it. I don’t have to think twice about the integrity of the data.”
“The install was really easy.”
Arno Conley: “The integration of Emory Toolbox within the Syntermed package has allowed us a really smooth transition. Out Pegasys uses a lot of different data – wall motion, ejection fraction, static images – Syntermed handles all of this really well.”
“The ease of use is enormously helpful.”
Dr. Prohost: “The Syntermed system provides me the opportunity to read from almost anywhere, which is really important.”
“ It’s intuitive, it’s not something you have to spend much time trying to use.”
“It displays parameters very well. The archiving ability is really straightforward. I can go back to compare previous studies with ease.”
“It saves time. The ease of use is enormously helpful. There’s nothing more reliable than Syntermed.”
Results
“We can have Dr. Prohost… I can sleep.”
Dr. Prohost – “We’ll be adding Syntermed Live to all hospitals at which I work. I feel very confident and comfortable with it. I think it has a glowing future.”
Arno – “Prior to this (there would be times when) a study couldn’t be opened for whatever reason. Now I can reliably process these studies and get them pushed over to a remote site without difficulty. That’s my most important issue – that it’s sent to Sytermed Live and it’s viewable by Dr. Prohist wherever he is. I can sleep.”
